logging off

Recently, my pc has started going into some sort of zombi state when I (or
any user) log off. The screen eventually goes black, the monitor goes into
power saving mode, and the pc keeps running - however no keyboard or mouse
actions will make the blue "Welcome" log in screen come back. I have to
reboot. What do I have to reset to fix this?

Thanks.
