Logging Into Outlook 2000

When I try to log into my outlook 2000 I am getting the
following error message:

"your microsoft exchange server is unavailable"

How do I correct this?
 
Are you using Exchange? If yes, what is your authentication set for? What
happens if you set it to none? Do you get the prompt and the login window?

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.
