I forgot my password for my windows log on account, and my kids log on does
not have the administrator access I need. Is there someway to retrieve my
password through their account to be able to log back on on mine, or what can
I do?

Try logging in with the Administrator User account.

In XP Pro, when the Welcome Screen appears, enter Ctrl+Alt+Del (twice)
Use "Administrator" as the User Account and assume no password.

In XP Home, boot the computer into safe mode. Select the Administrator
Account assuming no password.

When logged into Windows using the Administrator account go to START>RUN and
type

control userpasswords2

select your username and click "Reset Password"

Then look at this article after resetting your password.

Can you get into your system bios from the boot process? There you might be
able to change your password. Tell me if you can and what happens! There is
a way to resest all passwords but that involves opening the pc and using the
password clear jumper located on the motherboard near the CMOS chip and its
battery.

This is incorrect. The BIOS password is not related to the passwords on
the Windows operating system. Resetting the BIOS to the default values
will not affect the problem described by the original poster.

You will need to perform a "clean" installation of Windows XP and re-create
all user accounts and then reinstall all your programs.
