Log On and Log Off Dialog Boxes

I just set up a new hard drive on my system, using Win XP Pro, and made some
change that I can't figure out or un-do. When I start up the system, I get
an old-fashioned, not-very-XP-looking dialog box that asks for a password
(which I can leave empty) and requires me to click OK before it will
continue to boot to the desktop. When I log off, the desktop is momentarily
replaced with a dark blue screen and there is another dialog box.

I apologize for not being able to explain more clearly what the boxes look
like, but they are distinctly more boxy and Windows-classic style than the
rounded design of XP's default look.

Any idea how to "lose" these dialog boxes so the system simply boots up to
my desktop? If it was just XP on the drive I'd bite the bullet and
re-install, but I've loaded a bunch of apps and would rather avoid messing
with them.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Hi Alex,

You are using the Win2K style instead of the XP Welcome Screen. Go to
Start/Run and type in:
control userpasswords - Change the way .......

Then:

1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To
Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name
and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you start
your computer.

Tip:

Add Control UserPasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)
