Log off - computer turns off

I have several problems, which may be related. I'm going to list the
problems all together, although it may be better to deal with them separately.

1. When I log on, I get an error message for winlogon.exe.

2. When I am logged onto a user name and I push the "log off" button (not
the "turn off computer" button) in order to switch users, the computer
reboots. Or when I push the "turn off computer" button, it also reboots.
The only way to turn off the computer is to have it reboot and push the "turn
off computer" button from the screen where I choose the users.

3. For some reason, my Adobe program was deleted. Now, when I try to
download it again, I get an error message and Internet Explorer quits
running. I can't download the Adobe program in order to read .pdf files.

Heidi,

You are asking this in a wrong Microsoft newsgroup. Can you tell us how you
did find this newsgroup?

I ask this because this happens too often now and only by person using the
Microsoft Web interface to come here. It is of course easy for Microsoft to
track wich IP addresses are doing that, however I assume that there is
something wrong with the direction at those Microsoft Web interfaces.

I was not sure which newsgroup to post this question to, and General
Discussions seemed like a good start.

Are you sure it was General Discussion, because this newsgroup we are
answering from is DotNet.General a developpers newsgroup.

Heidi:
If you're still following this thread, a good place for you to start might
be: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/default.mspx --- then
click on whichever link applies to your operating system. The remainder of
this post is really intended more for the people at MS that track this
forum.

MS Guys/Gals and anyone else who might care:
I just spent a few minutes bouncing around the public web interface/links to
newsgroups. After doing this, I can see how someone could easily get led
down the wrong path looking for answers.

Since MS does monitor this group, here is a suggestion. The web interface
to this group is at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.dotnet.general.
This page doesn't give any description of what the group is.

However, other groups such as
http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showforum.aspx?forumid=39&siteid=1 seem to
be operating in an updated interface, complete with descriptions of the
focus of the group.

Previously I too felt that some were lazy in looking for the correct group,
but as Cor pointed out, this is now happening often enough that it's likely
there is some mis-directed link, or unintentional leading down the wrong
path going on.

Since this is a managed group, I feel it's time that MS stepped in and did a
little tracking on their end to see what they can do to not only help keep
inappropriate posts out of here, but also to help direct people to where
they are more likely to get meaningfull answers to their questions.

Sorry if this came off as a bit of a rant --- that is not my intention at
all.

Matt,

Can I redirect your message to somebody at Microsoft?

It makes everything very clear, and then I can spare me the time to do it
myself.

Cor,

You are of course more than welcome to send this to anyone you feel
appropriate.
