log file

I want something which I thought would be easy but I havn't been able to work
it out yet.
I want to create a log of everytime a button "image" is pressed, so that the
date and time are stored in the file so I can go back later and see what
times and days a perticular button "image" is pressed
 
You want a link tracker.

You will need to have permission to run cgi executables on the server, and you will have
to do some configuration work.
