Lockups after installing SP2

After installation of SP2 (on an existing install and a fresh install)
i have freezing issues. If i remove it, my system is stable as a rock.
It doesn't happen while i am doing any one thing either. Its just
random. Any Ideas? This is very annoying and until i find a solution,
there is no point in me having it

Come on now, doesn't anyone have any suggestions here?

Obviously not. The changes of finding someone with your exact
combination of hardware aren't that great. I would go to each of the
device mftrs.' websites and look for updated drivers or patches that
address SP2. I'd start with the motherboard and then check out ATI and
then Creative.

Good luck,

You were smart. Maybe someone with similar hardware will notice your
post and have some answers. A great place to post problems, etc. about
hardware is the forums on www.amdmb.com.

Brilliant, Cari! Thanks for the link.

Thank you as well. Unfortunately, i don't see how that applies in this
case. I am not getting errors based on DEP, just unrecoverable system
freezes at random times. I cannot blame it on one particular app
either as it does it with a minimal install of windows, base +
drivers, no additional software. Any known problems with VIA 4in1's,
ATI catylysts, SB audigy 2, silicon image 3112, and Broadcom
NetxTreme7.80 WHQL drivers with XPsp2?

You may have to edit the boot-ini file to read:

AllwaysOff instead of OptIn

You have Opteron CPUs... see the KB Article at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875352

Cari, thanks for this, The more i got to looking at it the more i
decided that disabling DEP was worth a shot. You know what, my
workstation has now been up and active for the last 6 hours without a
single lockup while doing some serious CPU intensive tasks.

I talked with the mobo manufacturer as well, and they will be
eventually coming out with a BIOS update that is supposed to address
some of the issues with sp2 and this board. I couldn't get them to go
into specifics but it does seem they are aware of issues.

Thanks
