My laptop and I have given up with SP2. At the second
beta stage, I reported an issue where it locked my
machine completely at a random point in th install
process ... no mouse movement, no keyboard access,
nothing, just the HDD light on. Sadly, this doesn't
appear to be something the geeks at Microsoft saw fit to
sddress before release.

I run a Compaq Armada 100S laptop, AMD K6-2 based, 128
megs RAM, 20 GB hard drive. Install locks it at a
variable point every time - have tried changing the
process priority to all possible settings, but no se.
When I recover from the crash, I have to uninstall SP2
using the add/remove programs section, and try again.
Have tried three different XP installs on blank hard disk
now. XP Pro, XP Home, and XP Pro pre-slipstreamed to SP1 -
also trid a slipstreamed SP2 but that just locked on
initial install.

Is SP2 not compatible with a K6-2, or is something else
dodgy?

Confuzzled

Like microsoft warned,"its a Beta release"....SP2 still is in "unofficial
stage",so why install it excpecting no problems,3rd party software
will need new drivers most likely, dought if more than 1/2 dozen of
em have anything ready w/o an official release.

Mark;
Have you asked Compaq?
This sounds like a Compaq issue.

I assume you had no peripherals connected such as printer, scanner,
camera etc?
