lockup,freeze or hang whendownloading from internet

when attempting to download any update from micrsoft or
windows update, or to view my comcast webpage i need to
download macromedia flash player and when i click the
download button the copmuter freezes,locks or hangs and
must go ctrl,alt,delete to end task????????????? i have
been told to uninstall ie 6.0 and redownload and install.
but cannot figure out how and where to uninstall from?

Just try a repair for now.

Add/Remove Programs/MS/IE repair.

Run MSCONFIG and under the Startup tab. If you do not know of a running
process check it out
