locks up when closing window

Every time I close a window in IE, the page locks up. The
title bar says about:"blank". The only way to get it going
again is to pull up the active task list and end the
about:blank task. It always takes twice to end it. Anyone
know how to kill "blank"?

Less likely, but it could be caused by a legitimate program running in the
background such as anti-virus. Disable background applications one at a time
to see if you can find the culprit.
