I want to lock someone out from using my pc when it is running and to
not boot it. They have extensive pc knowledge AFAIK.

How easy is it to bypass winXP screen saver passwords? Could i lock them
out with that?

Also what about the logon screen? It is password protected but could
they get passed that?

Simply, i do not want them to use my pc while it is in sight.

Thanks alot.

If you have Home, go into Safe Mode and enter the Adminstrator account
and set a different password there. The default one is a blank. If you
have Pro, just set a non-standard password on all accounts. As for the
person not being able to boot the PC, you can set a BIOS password. Just
make sure you don't forget it.

That said, anyone with physical access to any machine can get into it.
One can boot the machine with a program like ntpasswd and change the
Administrator password to a blank and get into the system that way. One
can wipe out BIOS passwords on desktops (laptops can be better
protected) by opening the computer and removing the motherboard battery
and letting it drain or by setting the Clear CMOS jumper if available.
So the success of your security settings depends on how much trouble
and time this person wants to go to and has to crack your machine.
