i run on xp home and there is supposed to be a 'lock your
computer'option in the task manager - mine does not have
one ---- can anyone help???

There is a shortcut for locking the screen if you have a
Windows key on your keyboard.
Try Windows+L. While that isn't the answer to the
question you asked, it is faster than right clicking,
going in to task manager and so forth.
If you do want to do this in the task manager, I think
what you are looking for is "Switch User"
under "Shutdown". Switch user is fundamentally the same
thing as locking your computer because it takes you back
to the logon screen. You can log back on from there and
find your session in the same state as you left it
providing the computer has not been powered off in the
interim. If someone does try to power off the system
while your session is active in the background, they will
get a warning.

Ctl-alt-del and then lock computer. You'll need to enter your current password
to unlock it though.

I think you have to have the classic logon enabled and
NOT the welcome screen. Go to the Control Panel and then
find User Accounts. Under "Pick a Task..." choose change
the way users log on and off... then uncheck "Use the
Welcome Screen". Try that. Of course, if you're a user
that likes the welcome screen as opposed to having to
type a user name in, then it may not be worth it, but
hey... I think that's the reason you don't have the
option under task manager. I'd test it for ya... but I'd
have ta reboot. I'm pretty sure that's it anyway... lol.

I believe that you can only lock your computer in WinXP Pro (The shortcut
key combination is WindowsKey + L).
