LOCKING ICONS ON DESKTOP

B

Bill Fleming

Is it possible to lock the position of my icons that are on my desktop. I
have positioned them many many times only to have them get scrambled. I
never know when this is going to happen. It my be days, weeks, or months but
they do get moved.
I am tired of having to reposition them over and over again and hope there
is a quick fix to my problem.

Thanks in advance

[[Microsoft's Layout.dll (free) file, which is included in the Windows NT

zipped layout.dll direct download..

[[Make Desktop Icons Stay in Place
1. Download the zip file that comes from the Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit.
Don't worry! It'll work with your Windows XP machine.
2. Copy the files in the .zip file onto the desktop. Then place Layout.dll
in your WINDOWS\System32 directory.
3. After the layout.dll is in the right directory, double click on the
layout.reg file.
4. Right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. You should see two
new commands: Save Desktop Icon Layout and Restore Desktop Icon Layout.
Use them to save and restore your icon arrangement. ]]

Hi Bill...

I've recently had this same problem myself...every time I rebooted or
refresh the desktop, they would revert to auto-arrange. I tried so many
things to fix it...Desktop Restore software would work but only after the
icons had been reset. I found the only way to beat this was create a new
profile as admin, log on to it and copy across my needed documents/temp
files/app data and place them in directories in the new profile. I then
deleted the original profile and files and am happy to say that all works as
it should. My icons are in my custom positions and stay there after reboots
and refreshes.

Hope that is of some help to you :)
