Locking File - Shared or Security permissions

Hi - I've been trying to change the permissions on an access 2002 database
file. The database is on a client workstation within a domain. There is no
problem creating permissions so users can have all access or no access.
Ideally I'd like to give some users read only access. From previous posting
it appears that users must have full control to create the locking file
within the directory. This is not a problem to implement. When creating
permissions what takes priority - the shared permissions or the security
permissions. I think I tried every option and I can't seem to apply
permissions so read only users can only view the db. The can either have
full access (not an option) or they get prompted can't lock file. I was
thinking of using access security instead but was hoping to use Windows
secuirty/sharing permissions instead.

You can use windows security to give everyone read only access, but not if
you want some read-only users and some with more rights. For that you have
to use Access security.
