hey everyone

just want to start off by saying i'm a windows networking newbie. i just recently installed windows xp on my laptop. and i have a windows 2000 machine that i dump my huge files. recently i also installed another hard drive on my windows 2000 box and wanted to lock the drive so that i "chico" and "Administrator" had access to the drive. my other family members have there own accounts on the box and most of the time is not logged in as chico or Administrator. when i want to grab my files from my laptop it says that i have no permission to do so. the user name and password is the same for chico on both machines. and i'm been reading something about global users and such but no one has a tutorial online. what i'm looking for is something like LDAP where i can use it as the main login information for all of my windows logins. only i want a standard windows service/protocol. any help would be greatly appriciated thanks

If you want to use LDAP you'll need a server operating system set up as a
domain controller. Windows 2000 and 2003 both support this.

If you installed XP Pro on the laptop, disable simple file sharing from
Folder Options, View.
