Locked Records

Been using an Access97 database for 5 years in a split environment.
Data/frontend - having queries, reports, forms. It has been working great.

Now, users are getting the "Couldn't save, currently locked by user..."
Most desktops are running OS-XP and OS-2000. Files are on a Novell server
and always have been.

Will be updating to AccessXP at some point in the next six months, but
wondered why the error seems to be starting up. Any ideas?

I can think of three possible issues.

First may have been just luck and the amount and how each person using
the database. As time goes on, people tend to use them more and often leave
them open on their desktop, which increases the possible locking issues

Next I would check for a LDB file in the same directory as the back end
database and having the same name except for the extension. If you find
this file when everyone should be out of the file, either someone is not out
of the file or it needs to be deleted.

Last maybe some changed the locking options.

Joe,
1. the file has been in heavy use for 5 years. That has not changed.
2. ldb has permissions/rights - always has, so why is it suddenly not
releasing?
3. locking permission is a possibility - I'll give it a shot.

Thanks,
Janet

They can do some strange things when they get corrupted or you get
someone turning their machine off without closing Access first.
