Humiliated joe

Heres the situation.

While ago i changed the admin password on this computer on
the domain because it would stop people from taking a peek
in it.

Now i had to remove it from the domain and as soon as i
did that only way i could get in was by the way of the
admin/password. Now i totaly forgot that password. And
been surfing the web to find a freeware to help do the
job, but nothing is coming out. It has winXp Pro and i
kept it updated to the last patch. I also tried the
ultimate boot Cd but that doesn't work.

Anyhow, was wondering if there was another way than
removing hard drive and putting it on another PC to copy
over the files and then re-installing everything.

Any info would help alot.

if it's xp, you can perform a password reset.

click start / run then type "control userpasswords"
select a user and click "prevent a forgotten password"

you'll need a floppy, you can do this on any xp pro machine.
use that disk on the pc you're locked out of.

If it is installed on NTFS, I have a Linux utility that
will allow you to reset any users' Password. Could try
to find the link, or zip it and email it to you.

I don't see the prevent a forgotten password option on the
window when it comes up after i select the admin user.

Question to your method, where would i export this
information onto a disk so i can bring it to another
computer so it would prevent a forgotten password?

i must be really blunted, i swore i did it :)
thanks for the correction.

Is it NT Offline password recovery?

.

What did you do Purple? did you figure itout or you had to
go to the formating proceedure?

No, it's some Linux utility that only works on NTFS
Operating systems, I've used it several times, it's
pretty sweet. Works on Win2000Pro, and XP. It's an
executable that you launch that creates the Password
recovery boot disk for you. very simple, all of the
prompts in the utility have a default answer, so you
basically enter through it til it asks you which account
to reset, etc...

Formatting to me is no big deal as I beta test all kinds of junk on that
machine, so I just formatted it, didn't bother to figure it out. Sorry
couldn't help more.
