locked out of computer

My son thought he could make our computer run faster by
deleting some "useless" files. We are now locked out of
the computer since it appears he deleted the users. We
can not log on as administrator, Guest, or the users we
had defined. Does anyone know of a way to get back in?
 
It would be helpful if you posted the precise error messages
you see on the screen, or how far exactly you get.
