ok...my 8 yr old grandaughter was here this weekend and apparently set
herself up an account on my husband's xp pro computer - now when he rebooted
this morning....her acct pops up and asks for a password...we've tried
everything - she's in school....is there any way to get into the system or
do we have to wait till she gets out of school today? It would have to be
his work computer!

thanks!

Reset her password from the Administrator account.

I'm guessing that you were only using one user account? When the second
account was created, the original account became the Administrator account.
You can access it from Safe Mode.

You should not routinely use this Administrator account- that's why it's a
little difficult to access. Keep it clean, safe and uncorrupted. Setup other
User Accounts and use them.

So, the PC belongs to a teen, your wife, sister-in-law, next door
neighbor..........or you stole it! Such a long story trying to convince
your innocence sucks. Tell your husband to take a day off or borrow
another pc, take pc to grand daughter's school, beat her with a large
stick, amputate her fingers, all KINDSA things if you have the
imagination. You want to spy on some-one else's account is what you
REALLY want to do. Get outa here. By the time you read this your "grand
daughter" may be married already.

wow .. you are really nasty -

and its a true story - don't care if you do believe me - actually the kids
are off school today and we are just going to call her and ask her how she
did it - at 8 we didn't think she could set up her own acct - she was just
playing 'cards' on his computer and this morning..he can't get in -

you are a very cinical old goat ... get a life .... haven't you ever locked
your keys in the car??

Pam

Thank you - actually - we've never set up any acct on that computer - so
imagine my hubby's surprise when he booted up and it came up with our oldest
grandaughters name and asking for a password! LOL ... locked out by an 8yr
old! If all else fails, we'll just wait till she up and find out what it
is - hubby doesn't do anything but get mail - and we can do that from his
acct on my computer... just a slight hassle - and thank you for the tip
though - I'll see if I can get his computer going for him with your advise

thanks - Pam

WHOO HOO - thanks so much that worked like a charm - I got in, took off the
password to smart little grandbaby's acct - set my hubbie up as admin (we
didn't have any accts on it at all) with no password (otherwise we'll forget
that too!) and left grbaby on so she can see her name in print (no password
though!) and rebooted - now hubby can choose his acct and Hannah can get
into her :-)

thanks a bunch!

another question - after resetting grdaughter's acct to no password and
limited - and setting up my hubbie as administrator and a password (one he
<and I> can remember since its his middle name!) and then rebooting, logging
in as hubbie - the computer keeps shutting down after a certain amount of
time (the monitor shuts off)
so I went to properties, system and screensaver and put none in screensaver
which greyed out the tme period - and then went into advanced (think it was
adv ) and it says Home/Office and everything below is clicked as NEVER ...
but the monitor still shuts off after a while.

If I click on where the Home/Office is to ALWAYS ON ... it won't allow me -
says access denied. I'm logged in as the admin...why wouldn't I have
access?

anyway, why do you think the monitor still shuts off? I went into my
grdaughters acct and made the settings the same thinking that maybe it was
overriding or something....still doesn't work

and thanks for your help in getting me in - as it was - she didn't remember
even putting a password IN there! gotta love em!

thanks
Pam

Are you sure that you have an administrator login? Limited accounts, as I
have found out - grrr, cannot change this setting and give the error you
describe.

Dick

yes, its an admin acct - I checked in the control panel and even when we
boot up and have to 'choose' which acct to log into, it shows Jim's name
with admin behind it...weird....I guess I could log in as before in safe
mode and go into admin that way...but should be able to do it just in the
admin acct... oh well, no biggie I guess.

thanks
