Hello
Could anyone please suggest possible causes of why the following happens?
Running WinXP Pro with SP2 on MS6728 board.
All of a sudden computer suddenly locks up and there is no way of releasing
it. Press restart and the computer shuts down but doesn't even display the
first page of the start up just hangs.
Switch off using the power button and then switch on again and it doesn't
again display the first page of the start up just hangs again.
Switch off and leave it off for 5-10 minutes and it boots up fine until the
next time it decides to lock up again.
Thanks
Andrew Wilson

Hi Andrew,

Run DiskCleanup first. Then manually remove all old files and sub-folders in your \Temp Folders on your computer. Empty the Recycle Bin. Then schedule a complete chkdsk of the operating system's Hard Drive partition. Do that from My Computer and right-click on the Hard Drive containing the operating system.Click Properties then click Tools. Under Error-checking click Check Now. After scheduled reboot and allow chkdsk to run.

When finished, run your Disk Defragmenter program.

Many thanks for the advice. I've also done a search using XP's 'Search for
files and folders' on the START button. I've searched and deleted all *.tmp
and *.bak files - are there any more unwanted files that I can dispose of and
what would their file extensions be?
Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

If you are serious about getting this problem fixed and others, I would see how TuneUp Utilities 2006 would help you in the long run. You can download a trial full-featured copy of the program from here: http://www.tune-up.com/. 30-day Trial period.

Any change can be undone, if you backed it up, first, within TuneUp Utilities 2006. It has a Rescue Center.

It has a TuneUp Registry Cleaner, TuneUp DiskCleaner and more. Read the instructions.
