Our company (of 42000) potential users has created a company wide standard
template and palette as the basis for all presentations. How can one lock
the palette and/or template so it won't be tampered with (assuming a
non-presentation savvy user)?

This one's all too easy to answer, unfortunately:

You can't.

There are ways of making it much easier for the users to do what you want them
to than to do it wrong, though.

Your IT department might be able to install a version of Office that doesn't
include any templates but your own, for starters.

It's also possible to write add-ins for PowerPoint that let the users create
properly formatted slides with just a button click.

If you'd like to contact me off-list at steve at-sign pptools dot com, I can
recommend a company who creates some very nice packages, including PPT and Word
templates, necessary macros and installers.
