Lock Icon

Older versions of Excel used to have an Icon with a lock
symbol up near the title bar. THis was very handy in that
you could select any cell and immediately tell if it
was "locked" or "unlocked". As well it was a "one click"
way when designing a spreadsheet to lock or unlock a
cell. Currently I see no way to get that icon and also
you must do... a three step process to accomplish the same
thing 1. Format 2. Cells 3. Protection 4. uncheck Locked.
And even with this method when you click on a cell there
is no easy visual cue to tell you if a cell is protected.

Sure would appreciate some info on this!

I doubt it was there by default, you can easily put it there,
do view>toolbars>customize, select commands, select format and scroll down
until you see
the padlock icon, now grab it with the mouse and drag it to where you want
it

Hi

Go to View / Customise and from the Format menu drag the Locked Cell button
onto the toolbar.

And in Excel 2002 and 2003, it's on the Protection toolbar by default.
