location of edited Outlook Express attachment

Help! I KNOW I'm supposed to copy my Outlook Express attachments into
my own files before working on them, but forgot. I worked on a Word
document directly as an attachment, saving it as I went along, and of
course, when I opened it up today, all my editing was gone. Where did
that work go?
