"Location is Not Available" -- "Access is Denied."

Steven Hilgendorf

Hello,

Why do I get the "Location is not available" box with the "Access is
denied" error when I try to access some files and/or folders through
Vista's Windows Explorer?

I'm the only one who accesses this PC, so having multiple profiles would
be completely overkill and unnecessary, if this has anything to do with
the problem.

Thank you,

Steven

You are probably trying to open a folder like My Documents, which is not
really a directory in Vista, vista uses Documents. It is a junction (kind
of a link) to another directory. Leave it alone.

It is possible that this is permissions, or perhaps a UAC issue. Have
you disabled UAC?

Vista has hidden junctions, which, in Windows Explorer, are shown as hidden
shortcuts, with File Folder properties; they are used, in part, to redirect
program installations that rely on the old XP folder names and XP
locations). For example, "Documents and Settings" is one of those
junctions, and not a
folder as such (and yes, when clicked on, will give you an "access denied"
message). For more info, see:
