Locate Product ID Code

Mike

I have an OEM Copy of Win XP Pro and I have lost the
product ID Code. That is the 25 digit and letter code to
re install XP. How do I locate the Product ID code in Win
XP Pro. I luckily have a copy of the OS and need to
locate the #'s in the registry. Please help ASAP.

Thanks

Mike

The product key should be on a sticker somewhere on the computer --
usually on the side. If not, you can download and run ViewKeyXP to
retrieve the key from Windows itself. Here's the link:

As others have said you can use the key finder to find your key, except that
you have an oem install and the key that comes up is most likely the "oem
key" that the computer manufacturer used to install xp from their master
image. If so, this key is not your key and will not work. Best to get the
key number off the COA sticker on the cd case or side of the computer. If
you have no coa sticker, then call the oem, as this is a violation of the
eula. They must provide the coa sticker and code.

Hi Mike,

D/load, install and run AIDA32 Personal System Information:
http://www.aida32.hu/aida32-download.php
When you launch AIDA, click on the Operating System icon in the right-hand
pane, then again, click on Operating System in the right-hand pane. Look for
Product Key in the Licence Information section.

If your OEM XP came preinstalled, the Product Key that is displayed may be
the one that was used for the drive image that was installed at the factory,
and not necessarily the same as the Product Key you purchased that was used
for activation, and this may cause problems when you try to activate
following reinstallation.

Greetings --

The Windows 25-character Product Key (required to perform the
installation) is stored on the CD packaging on a bright orange sticker
that says "Do not lose this number." If it was an OEM (factory
installed) license, it's stored on a label that the PC manufacturer
affixed to the exterior of the PC case, or on the bottom of a laptop.

To recover a lost Product Key:

If your system still runs, you should be able to use AIDA32
Enterprise from http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php to find the Product
Key. (If you have a factory-installed OEM license, and haven't since
reinstalled the OS, the revealed Product Key is probably of the drive
image used at the factory and not _your_ specific Product Key;
therefore, it probably cannot be -- and definitely should not be --
used for a re-installation.)

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact whomever sold you the
PC; although very few manufacturers/vendors keep records of the
Product Keys they've sold, it's worth a try before you have to buy a
new license.
