I have an XP workstation on a Win2k3 network that cannot resolve it's own
name properly. I cannot ping the NIC address or the computername. I can ping
"outside" Internet addresses and "some" of the internal addresses on the
network but not all of them? I can ping the 127.0.0.1 loopback successfully.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thx.

It sounds like the DNS is set incorrectly. The server should look to
itself for DNS with forwarding zones set appropriately. The
workstations should all look only to the server for DNS. Additionally,
you did not tell us the service pack level on this workstation. Perhaps
it has SP2. If this is the case, check the status of the Windows
Firewall. Service Pack 2 automatically enables the Windows Firewall. If
you are not running a third-party firewall, go to the Windows Firewall
applet in Control Panel and enable File & Printer Sharing on the
Exceptions tab. Or disable it if you have different firewalling
solutions in place on the domain.
