Local user profile when adding PC to domain

Hi

We have about 700 PCs that are currently Novell and we are in the process of migrating to AD. We have noticed that when we add a PC to the domain the local user profile settings do not stay with the user. The user logs on for the first time and ends up with a new profile and not much authority. We copy the users old local profile to the new and that fixes several things but the user does not have write auth to many registry entries so programs now blow. The new profiles should be have an extension of "boone" but we get many with simply .00

Does anyone have an idea how I can can get these systems in the domain without all this copying and kludging of local user accounts?

Thanks..

HI,

You may want to set up your users with roaming profiles.
That way they can log on from any workstation carrying
with them all their access rights.
Go back to the users profile and create a roaming profile.

Thanks for the idea but that does not resolve the issue. How do I get the PCs into the domain without loosing all the user settings because a new local profile is created? I am talking 2000 users here..
