Good afternoon in my folder "win\docs & sett\administrator\local
settings \temp" I had some 600 files & folders taking up over 1GB. I
have deleted nearly 400 *.tmp files but still have 226 files using 181
MB. These files are a mixture of applications, xml files, log files,18mb
of Office Professional txt files, a 52MB UHA file, a 2MB SMC file plus a
few other types. Are the contents of this Temp folder needed please?

Usually in that window if you go to edit, select all, then delete all,it'll
empty
it out much quicker, then close-out,empty recycle bin.All those files can and
should be deleted,by running edit, deleting all,if xp needs a folder it wont
delete, most all others will/would have, the folders are usually all
installation
types,needed only once.

Are you logging on as The Administrator?

Why you should not run your computer as an administrator

Erm - I, and anyone else who uses the pc, only use the one logon, how do
I set up a non-administrator user account please? At present the pc
just starts without a logon; can this still be done when I open the new
account? I've only just gotten the spouse to use the pc and if separate
logons are needed I can imagine spouse losing interest, which would be a
shame.

You can set up a user account as part of the administrators group.

I am the only user and the only account besides the administrator on my
machine.
I use no password. I boot right to the desktop. No logon screen. No
entering a password.

I'll monitor this account in future as I did wopnder why I was running
short of space.
