Local Area Network cable unplugged message

D

Dave F.

Hi

I'm using SP2 Media Centre Edition.

For about half an hour after I switch on I get a bubble message 'Local
Area Network cable unplugged', from the Task Bar right hand end. That is
called the Quick Launch Toolbar isn't it?

I don't have a network. I'm just connecting my computer to a router that
is used for my Broadbans connection.

I checked the connection, it seems OK, & the internet is fully working
great (where I live has the Telephone server has just been upgrade to
8mb - Ah! the joy).

Anyway, does anyone have a clue how to stop this annoyance from happening?

Cheers

If you plug a network cable into your computer and that network cable
connects to your router which connects to the Internet - you have a network.

If you do not plug anything into your network port, simply disable the
device.

Otherwise - check for the latest driver from the actual network adapter
manufacturer's web page.

I have a network cable (cat 5 I think) in that port going to the router
& a cable coming out of the router to the telephone line.

In Network Connections, if I disconnect the Internet gateway connection.
the LAN appears to stay connected.

Any ideas?

in the Network Connections window it says it'd an Intel 10/1000 PL
I need to take the back off the machine to get the serial code,
according to the Intel web site. So I'll have to do that later.
