Hi, need some direction please. When I turn on my pc and try to click on icon
- application not found comes up . I can't do add or remove from
controlpanel. I hav e run several Avira rescued cd passes. No help. Is it
possible this is a service that needs to be turned on? Thanks for any and all
help.

All apps/shortcuts or just a few ? One dependency on system operation is
the Path environment variable which includes \Windows + \Windows\System32.
Are these "Broken" links Windows native apps or 3rd party ?

Thanks for your reply!
All apps. When I try to open word or excel I get app not found. When I try
to open AVG for exapmple I get an open with window. I can access the internet
and get to network folders, it's just the apps that don't work.

Click Start, Run, (Type) Cmd [Enter]
Path [Enter]
Verify in the returned string that both C:\Windows & C:\Windows\System32
are shown.

Does your system make use of more than a single partition/volume ?

When I click start, run and type cmd a windows opens Open with. Single
partition

Cmd window is correct, you need to left click inside of it to give it
focus and then enter the command Path and press Enter to execute.

Single partition - OK, then you're not dealing with drive letter as a
possible reason for the apps to fail to launch.

Alternate, Right Click "My Computer", left click Properties. When
the details box opens click Advanced (TAB). Use the Environment
Variables box. In the lower section ( System Variables ) scroll down
the list until you locate "Path". Examine the string for the two entries
I mentioned in earlier posts.

What about the security status of the PC ? Do you use a program
called Malwarebytes ? What Anti-Virus software do you use on
the PC ?
