loading on Xp

Karen

I have today tried to load XP onto a new formatted 80Gb
maxtor hard drive, but the followin message keeps re-
appearing,

"There is a syntax error in the .SIF file that setup uses
at line:316.

Setup cannot continue. Shut down or restart your
computer"

I have tried restarting and shutting down but nothing
seems to work.

What do I need to do?

Hi Karen,

What did you use to partition and format the drive? If you used Maxblast,
try removing the newly created partitions, then boot the WinXP CD and allow
setup to do the partition work. Also, if you have a bios-based antivirus
detection scheme, disable it.
