Loading Office 2000 in Windows XP OS

I just bought a new computer with Windows XP HE. I am
trying to load Office 2000 but during the install it
stops and says "Cannot find needed "CAB" files on the CD,
please insure they are on the CD and try again. The
files are on the CD, so we tried to load another Office
product, namely, Office 2000 Small Business, and got the
same response during the install. We could not proceed.

Looked in the Folder Options/File types and there was
no "CAB" file extension listed.

What could be wrong?

Clean out your temp files and close your 69 background apps as
recommended before you install new ware.
