Installing Software in XP Home

OS is XP Home SP1 fully updated.
If I try to install my copy of Office 2000 from CD the MS Installer fails
with an error message that it cannot find the office.cab file.
If I copy the cd to a folder and run setup from the folder then everything
is OK.
The cab file is on the cd and I can view it's contents.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?
