loading images into a web page.

I am new to Front page and I am having trouble loading pictures into a web
page. If I use netscape I have no problem. When using frontpage I get errior
massage "can not load" image file format not supported". The format I am
using is .jpg or gif images. The files was made by Adobe photoshopelements.

Not sure what you mean by; "loading pictures", you don't load a picture into
FP. With your FP web opened; first you Import the image file (jpg, png, gif)
into FP's Images folder then from there you place them into your layout.

If you still get 'image file format not supported' (an error which I don't
remember ever seeing) it's quite possible your image that you think is a jpg
in reality is not. Are you changing a image file format by just changing the
file extension??? - if so that's not how you convert an image from one
format to another.

Make sure you are saving your JPG images in the subformat of RGB.

I have pictures in my PC that was designed using Adobe photoshop Elements.
When I use Netscape to insert these pictures into a http folder(I call this a
webpage) I have no problem. BUT when I open a HTTP page with FP and I click
insert picture and go to the folder where the picture is and click on the
name. This is where I get the errior message.
In photoshop when these photo's were made I saved them by save as and
clicked on pfg or gif.

You must have a FP web created and opened. Then, File | Import the images
from your hard drive location into the image folder in FP before inserting
on a page and saving. Do you do that?

Thanks for the hint.
Yes I do save jpg with RGB and gif with indexed color. I'm glad to know I
was doing something right. Now if I could get FP to agree it is a true jpg.

I have a html file open with Frontpage is this what you mean when you say"FP
web created and opened"
When I try to import from drive locatin all I get is blank. yet I can close
frontpage and open the same html file in Netscape and I can insert the
pictures.

You open your local web/site by;

Open FP
File | Open Web/site
open the site on your local machine
Then Import your images;
File | Import ... browse to the images outside your web/site on your local
hd and import them into the Images folder in your FP web (then can really go
anywhere but keep them in the image folder for now)

NOW create your webpage and place your image where you want on the
page...using the images out of the IMages folder.

....
To add to Thomas's suggestion about making sure you save your image from PS
as a RGB jpg....also Optimize & Resize it PRIOR to importing it into FP - FP
does a lousy job with images. Also, you should, for convenience sake,
register PS in FP as your image editor.

Thanks for your help. It has not helped my problem yet. I tried all that you
said and with these pictures it don't work. Everything works up to the point
of adding the pictures to the (I think ) images folder and when I click add I
get error massage. server error The url./ #13 Jess Martin.jpg is invalid it
may refer to a noneeistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder
that is not in the current web.
Oh yes how do I register PS in FP

R

Rob Giordano \(Crash\)

Try it without the # sign in the file name (rename the image) - also don't
use capitalization in file names...or spaces - use underscore or dashes
instead.

Tools | Options | Configure Editors to see where to register PS, or any
other editor you may want to use...like TopStyle Pro for css, etc.
