Do you have Microsoft Office or Microsoft Word installed?

What is the file extension of the files in My Documents? Is it RTF or
WRI?

Hope this helps.

No, I don't have Office or Word installed and I don't know what you mean by RTF or WRi files??? how do I find that out?

File names are made up of a name and an extension separated by a period
(or full stop). Thus a letter to Fred created using Microsoft Word might
saved as a file named fred.doc where fred is the name and doc is the
file extension (many word documents are saved with this file extension).

You can view files on your hard disk using Windows Explorer (Start, All
Programmes, Accessories, Windows Explorer ). However, by default file
extensions are not shown so you will need to make them be displayed.
Select Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View tab, and uncheck the
option under Advanced Settings "Hide extensions for known file types".

When you try to open a file the system looks for a programme associated
with that type of file which is capable of opening the file. The files
you have in your My Documents folder have a file extension your system
does not recognise. You therefore need to view the files in the My
Documents folder using Windows Explorer and the file extension will give
us a clue as to the programme that created them.

Have you ever used Microsoft Works or Quicken. If yes what versions were
they?
