Loaded program, cannot log on without password

I upgraded to Windows XP, and when the computer boots up I
get a log on screen. I never got this screen when I ran
Windows 98, and it is asking me for a password. I do not
recall setting a password during XP set up. Is it asking
for one I may have used to set up my computer 5 years ago?

How can I bypass this, or uninstall XP and use the Win 98
that is already on the computer without totally
reformatting and losing everything I have on the computer?

Leave the password blank and press enter. Once at the desktop, go to
Control Panel, open User Accounts, click "Change the way users log on or
off," select "Use the Welcome screen" and click "Apply Options."
