.lnk suffixes in startup, desktop, but everything's running fine

My install is new. All of my desktop and startbar shortcuts are showing the
..lnk suffix. This doesn't appear to be related to a virus, everything's
running fine. I run Norton AV, have just run Spybot and the Msoft Malware
app, nothing. How can I get rid of the .lnk suffix? Thanks.
