Live UpDate, Is There a Problem?

Is there a problem with Norton's Live UpDate. My wife's computer has
Norton's System Works 2001 and uses the Norton Anti-Virus that comes with
that program. The subscription to the virus definitions expired (Live
UpDate) and, after a couple months, I renewed it and downloaded new
definitions. I ran a scan and everything seemed OK. The next time I booted
up, it came up with a message that Auto-Protect is not working and it froze
the computer. I had to shut it down and then start up again in safe mode, I
tried to run a scan and that also froze the computer. With both freezes I
got a message to reinstall Norton's Anti Virus. I ran a restore, but it
didn't help. I got the original disk for Systems Works and re-installed the
anti virus program. Afterwards, I tried to do a scan and it froze the
computer with a message that it couldn't find the definitions. I am
becoming very sorry that I ever renewed that Live UpDate subscription.

Anybody know what's happening or what I should do?

Had the same problem so I got rid of Norton .

There is a way to "they say" to remove Norton totally
from your disk so you could reinstall but it is too
cumbersome.
