Live One Care kills Network

I have two networked XP Professional PC’s. On one PC (call it #1) I have
successfully installed Windows Live One Care; it works perfectly for 3 months
now. On the other PC, (PC #2) I have been using AVG with no issues either
but I have an extra copy of One Care and would like to install it on the PC
#2 that has AVG installed. This is mostly because the operator does not keep
up with normal maintence. I have tried several times to install One Care
on #2, removing AVG first and then re-booting. The One Care installation
works just fine, but then my network disappears. Nothing I seem to do will
allow the networked PC’s to communicate with each other, and I can’t print
from computer #1 either.
I must be missing something here, has anyone experienced the same issues?
How can I install One Care and still keep my network? Any help is greatly
appreciated!

Does One Care work over a VPN connection?

If so, that would be the explanation. My experience has always
been that a VPN connection and my local network have been
incompatible. I have always had to kill the VPN to get the
local network back.
