Live Messenger - Offline contacts

Hi,

I've got Live Messenger installed (latest build) on my two PCs. On one - my
laptop - which i have signed into the most - a couple of contacts appear
permanently offline, and despite being in my contact list, they show as
"Person X is not in your contact list. Click here to add him or her now"

If i sign into my account on the other PC (desktop) they show as online.

Switching back to the laptop, I sign in again - and theyre offline - i can
only chat to them if i open a window with them - and it has that message at
the top - Clicking to add them never ever works.

Any suggestions how to fix?
