Hi Will,

No the start menu is still there, just the option to show the recently opened
documents is gone and so is the option in control panel/taskbar and start
menu/start menu/customize//advanced is gone. I made a lot of changes to the
"services" and i have installed a lot of programs BUT the option to show the
list of recently opened documents fromt the start menu is still there for
another username account for xp ... and sometimes its not there either.
I havent been able to fix this problem for a long time, its always been the
case for the last 4 fresh installs

Thanks
Robert
Hi Robert

What changes did you make to which Services? Has the whole start menu list
disappeared?

Hi Robert

Without knowing which services you changed and how you changed those services it is going to be very hard to work out what has gone wrong. Some services are set 'Globally' others are set for individual users.

Are you saying that the problem still exists after a 'clean' install?

the changes to the services and installed a lot of software.

I have tried looking in the ms site but i cant find anything.Woudl you have

Hi Robert

As I posted before, some services can alter settings 'Globally' and other 'individually. Without knowing what you have changed in which services, I'm not sure that I can you much more. Alterations to Services should be limited to say the least and then only altered if and when needed.

It sounds like a policy is being applied. Explorer is smart enough to hide options overridden by group policy.

Type regedit in Start Run
Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
and look for NoRecentDocsMenu and NoRecentDocsHistory.

Thanks, David - Hell I can't run with you. Great posting - 'ksysteminfo' - hadn't come across that one before.
