Linux vs Unix

Searching around for info, and what I can do, I found some info on Linux
and this below....

" Linux is a contraction for Linus' Unix; the short i sound preferred by
most (including Torvalds)
derives from the Swedish pronunciation of Linus."

For what I read there Linux is almost another version of Unix or Similar.

So the question is, scripts maded for UNIX System, do they work on Linux too
?
