Linux LiveCD *does* come in handy, I have to admit just once

So Linux is not all bad--it's good for this one limited purpose.

No ****ing way you have such a high IQ and are a millionaire and say such
silly shit... :)

I don't run linux myself dude, but I do respect it.

Tried a Kaspersky "LiveCD" rootkit detector that uses Linux.

That article was written back in 2008 Jun and has a link to a 2008
Kaspersky .iso which is still on their site.

Avira has a current linux based boot disk

.... which can update itself and also check the boot sector.

He's supposed to be a millionaire.. You mean he can't pay for the apps he
uses? :(

Nice little program, thanks for the share.

Tried a Kaspersky "LiveCD" rootkit detector that uses Linux. Why?
Because loading a foreign OS like Linux from the CD reader is better
at detecting rootkits, which mimic your Windows kernel, than a windows
based rootkit detector that lives on your hard drive.

AVG makes a linux based repair disc as well.

He just loves to troll the Linux zealots.)

When I suggested an alternate boot, I didn't mean that it couldn't be
Windows or even the same version as the contaminated OS it just has to
be a different instance from the one from the contaminated disk.

Linux is indeed good for this.

I see. So there's no need to use Linux after all.

If you have a Windows-based rescure CD / rootkit detector I'd like to
use it. As I alluded to in another thread Linux LiveCD has given my
XP system problems if you don't exit the LiveCD properly (you then
need to do a chkdsk to repair your Windows NTFS HD on reboot).

Nope, try again Dustin.

Why? Do you respect North Korea? Do you respect Hitler? Do you
respect Communism? See my drift? I respect winners, not losers.

....and all of this ASSuMEs that the whole practice isn't idiocy.http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntucat...www.psychocats.net/ubuntucat/antivirusculture

Trying to start a flame war? The link suggests, incredibly, that even
Windows users do not need anti-malware protection. While it's true I
can't remember the last time, as a Windows user, I ever caught a virus
(I think it was the early 1990s), or malware (some program I installed
I had to uninstall a couple of years ago), I think this is going a bit
too far.

Pull the other one! As established in that other thread, the live CD did
_nothing_ to your NTFS hard drive. The alleged problem happened when you
failed to shut down Windows cleanly.

A Windows based rescue disc would more than likely be illegal.

2008?????
Good thing there've been no new viruses created since then.

The F-secure screen shot is worrisome.
I have several false positives on my system. Summarily
removing them would be undesirable.
I'd like to choose which get deleted.

Which proves the general point that Ray is too stupid to even use windows.

It is not possible to negotiate terms with virus and malware
writers. You must reformat and re-install.
Actually, all partitions must be nuked.
You forgot about boot sector viruses.
