Hi guys! What I'm looking for is a recommendation for a bootloader to take
the place of GRUB and LILO>

I'm installing 6 Linux distros over 3 hard discs. I'd like it be able to put
it on a floppy and run from there, and also to install to the first HD. It
would be nice to be able to boot from a pen drive, USB HD, or flash drive
(not really imperative, though).

Naturally, I don't want to spend a ton of time learning all the bells and
switches, as all my time is now spent learning all the flavors of linux. I
want it to just take over whatever Win is using, or stay put while I install
a bunch of Linux distros.

Any ideas? (simple is good, too:)

Thanks,

JR

Look, wanna learn linux ? Grub *is* linux. So don't throw it away.
It's a part of linux, it may teach you the boot process, fine tune
the boot process (select a kernel), even boot from remote drive (and hide
partitions, for installing windows, Dos... ) This little app is a back door
to
all linuxs.
However if you want something else, i suggest you a very nice tool called
the Ultimate Boot CD. It boots every thing in your box, you don't need
to bother with anything else. just burn the ISO, done.

Well, all I have on hand is Slackware. As you know, it only includes
lilo..............

So, do you suggest I wait for another distro and install it first or what?
And thanks for the comments, it's what I'm trying to do!!

I agree that Slackware peeps use mostly lilo, and lilo is very popular,
althought it's not really better... maybe for resuming system after
hibernation,
on a laptop it's could be suitable.

So you can download a Grub (it fits on a floppy) from there home page,
and then install linuxs. To be complete there is also XOSL but i didn't try
it.

Here you can see what a fine piece of software it is :)
