Linksys Wireless Adapter

R

Rodger Dodger

I have a linksys wirless router. It was hooked up to a
desktop with XP Home Edition by wireless adapter. I also
had it connected to a laptop with windows ME. Everything
was working ok, then last week I suddenly could not
access my internet access point with the desktopwith XP
Home, it showed network not available, even though it
still works on laptopwith ME. I can change the SSID
network name and it shows up in perfereed networks, but
not in avaiable networks. Linksysc has gotten me to the
point that it will show up in both perferred and
available network boxes but will nto connect to
interenet. If we hit the refresh button it disappears
from the available network completely. This is all set
up with infrastructure. If I change to ad hoc it shows a
strong single but still will not access internet. Linksys
seems at a loss? Agains, works great with Windows ME.
Any suggestions

First Off NEVER EVER CHANGE THE SETTINGS OF YOUR
ROUTER!!!! I had the same problem and I do not know why
Linksys is telling everyone who is having this problem to
try changing the SSID name. The thing is that Linksys
routers are pretty stable in finding the correct settings
but if you change anything then you could loose your
connection.

If you did change the SSID name then, what you need to do
now is go back into the router's settings by going to the
computer that can talk to the network, and open internet
explorer. In the address bar type in 192.168.1.1 and
press the enter key. Next a login dialog box opens which
you leave username blank and type in "admin" without the
quotes for the password and click ok. Your router
settings should now load up and what you want to do is
change back the SSID name to what it was originally and
don;t forget that the SSID name is case sensitive. If you
don't remeber or didn't write down the default settings
then you could try changing the SSID name to "LINKSYS"
without the quotes and in all capital letters since this
is what mine is set to. If that doesn't work then your
going to need to re-run the router wizrad cd. Note: If
anyone else reply's to you and tells you to try running
the Windows XP Network Wizard, don't do it since it
didn't fix the problem for me either.

After the above step a tip bubble should now pop-up in
the taskbar stating "one or more wireless networks are
available click here". So click on that bubble and choose
the SSID name that is setup in your router. If the SSID
name isn't lisated than cancle out of there and restart
you computer and redo this step which should now have the
SSID name listed. Hilight it and click on connect. If the
connect button is still grayed out then, there should be
a check box that says connect anyway.... check that box
and then click on the connect button. Then you should be
all set.

Then the next time a computer gets disconnected, do this
in the following order instead....

1. shoutdown all computers
2. unplug your wireless router
3. unplug your modem.
4. wait 30 secs.
5. Plug back the modem in first and wait until the send
and recieve leds are blinking and the cable led is solid
6. Once thats done, then you can plug back in the
wireless router.
7. Then turn your computer back on and you should be back
up.
