Links will not respond in OE6

Since installing IE7, links within e-mails and newsgroups in OE6 will not
work. I click, nothing happens. Is there some security setting I now need
to adjust to allow linking, or is this just another IE7 glitch?

Not sure why the following worked but in Windows Explorer, opened file
types, went to URLHypertext and unchecked DDE (and in Hypertext w/Privacy.)

I clicked on an e-mail link which worked. I was prompted if I wanted to
make Internet Explorer my default browser. I clicked "do not ask" again.

Linking continues working fine. When I checked back in File Types, DDE had
re-checked itself in both places. What's that about?

If no joy, see http://www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx

Those using IE7 are asked to post their comments & questions to and seek

IE *must* be selected as the default browser if you want such links to work.

Options/settings in several third-party applications may be disallowing the
change. These include Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer, SpywareBlaster,
SpySweeper, Norton AntiVirus, McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware, and Zone
Alarm (Free and Pro).

BTW, most of the above applications should have been /disabled/ prior to
installing IE7.

Pa Bear -

Since IE7 came as an update which is downloaded automatically, even though I
looked over the update, I made a false assumption that MS would post
warnings if a download needed special handling.

Changing security settings is an update; IE7 is an installation of a new
program. They didn't update my browser - they gave me a new one.

Other than betas, this is the buggiest release I can remember of either an
MS OS or browser. I guess the technology has become so complicated, it is
impossible to anticipate how tens of millions of individual systems will
react to the same "update".

I can't say this is a nightmare but if I could go back to the IE6 as I had
it, I'd do it in a second - then download IE7 next year.

IE7 is considered an upgrade, not an update. Installing it is /not/
required.

You can uninstall "Windows Internet Explorer 7" via Add/Remove Programs;
Doing so returns you to IE6.

I would /not/ recommend that anyone install IE7 via
Windows/Microsoft/Automatic Updates. Do so manually, and only after
reading:

Required reading IMHO before installing IE7:
