Links LS 2000 won't load in XP

Links LS 2000 ran fine on my old Gateway which originally ran ME and then was
upgraded to XP. But I just had a new XP computer built for me with an AMD
Athlon 64 3800 dual processor, and after installing Links LS 2K, I get a
black screen and an an error message in an endless loop when trying to run
it. I uninstalled and reinstalled Links LS, downloaded the 1.21 patch, and
ran Compatibility, but all to no avail.

The error reads:

Links LS 2000 Main Executable has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

After hitting Don't Send for the error, the screen keeps going dark and the
same messages come up in an endless loop until I delete LINKSLS.EXE and
LINKSLS2K.EXE from the active processes.

If it matters, my video card is an nVidia GeForce 8400 GS.

What now? Is there something glaringly obvious that I'm missing?

TIA!
Paul

Nope, not yet. I've also been assured that my digital monitor doesn't ahve
anything to do with it.

Move up to Tiger Woods 2007 or 2008. 07 uses less resources and will run on
a slower computer and 2008 needs a fairly fast computer to run smooth but
the game play is great. We played Links 99 to 2000 and when we went to Tiger
Woods there was no looking back.
