Audigy-LS Windows driver

I bought a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy-LS as part of my effort to
soup up my son's computer in preparation for Half-Life 2 and some of the
other newer games coming out. His system is an Athlon XP 3000+ w/ 512MB an a
Geforce FX 6800 (vanilla), all running on a FIC AN19E motherboard
(http://www.fic.com.tw/product/motherboard/1stmainboard_detail.aspx?type=legacy&model_id=48).

The Audigy-LS is a brown-box version and of course came with no installation
CD. I didn't think that was a problem as I always download the
talest-and-greatest drivers ahead of time for *any* hardware that I order,
so I almost never use the installation CD anyhow. However, I downloaded
AUDLS_PCDRV_LB_1-02-00.exe for the Audigy-LS, but it doesn't work! It
installs OK, and the Audigy-LS shows up in Device Manager, but there is no
sound, and no volume-control icon in the system tray.

Unless I'm really screwing something up, I have to assume that the file I
downloaded is just an "update," and that the driver from the original CD
needs to be installed first. Of course, I don't have that. Any idea where I
can get the original driver? It doesn't seem to be available on Creative's
site. Is that even the problem?

Are you sure you have connected speakers/headphones to correct socket?
Does the software have a setup or test option? You may have a faulty item.
Mike.
