Links in the TOC

Hello:

I want hyperlinks in the tabel of contents that will lead me to certain
pages in my doc. I've seen this done before back five years ago and it seemed
easy, but I've forgotten how to do this.

All TOC entries in Word 2000 and above are automatically hyperlinked by
default. In earlier versions the page numbers are hyperlinked, which is
still true in Word 2000 and above even if you disable hyperlinking for the
entire entry.

Word 2000 automatically created hyperlinks to my chapters and
subheadings in my documents. Now, with Word 2003 this is not the case.
What am I missing? I've poured over the MS Help site to no avail.

TOCs are still hyperlinked by default in Word 2003, but by default you have
to press Ctrl+click to follow a link. You can change this setting on the
Edit tab of Tools | Options. If you have "ScreenTips" checked on the View
tab of Tools | Options, you should be seeing a popup that says "Ctrl + click
to follow link."

Thank you for your reply. I see what you mean; however, I want the use
to be able to simply click titles within my TOC and go directly to tha
place in the document. The document I am doing will be posted to th
web and end-readers will need to be able to simply point-click withou
having to do the CTRL+click.

Again, thank you for your help. I am just not quite there yet.
can't imagine why MS changed such an important aspect to Word for 2003
The TOC should not be this difficult and it wasn't in 2000...oh well
that's another story!

Whether users will be able to click in the TOC or will need to Ctrl+click
will depend on *their* settings. In either case, they should be familiar
with what is required. If you post the document as a Web page (rather than a
Word document), this restriction will not apply.
