Links in Outlook not going via proxy ?

Hi,
I have a problem where as some machines that have hyperlinks within messages
in Outlook to things like PDF documents on the Internet are not being
redirected via the proxy server that is specified in Internet Explorer.
Normal browsing is fine and we have definitely seen that the links work as we
can see them being declined by the firewall.

Does anyone have any ideas why this might happen ? Environment is XP SP2,
Office 2003 SP2, IE6 with everything fully up to date delivered by WSUS.
